Shyne Barrow Breaks Silence: “I Will Continue as UDP Leader”

Shyne Barrow

(WBWTN) - After a period of quiet following his resignation as Leader of the Opposition earlier this year, Shyne Barrow has made a strong return to political leadership.

In a public statement released yesterday, Barrow addressed members of the United Democratic Party (UDP), stating that after speaking with supporters and witnessing the current state of the party, he has decided to resume his role as Party Leader until the next National Convention.

“After speaking to many of you and seeing how our beloved UDP has gone dormant, with no attempt at unity, no compliance with the Party Constitution, no adherence to procedures and structures of the Party, no vision or resources to take the Party forward, I am compelled to accept your call for me to continue as Party Leader until the next National Convention as was my original position,” the statement read.

Barrow emphasized that his current term as Party Leader has not yet expired and that the next convention is scheduled to be held later this year. Until then, he says, he will continue to lead the UDP and push forward with efforts to reform the party.

“We will continue with the reform agenda including the necessary Constitutional amendments to rebuild the UDP better than ever,” he stated.

Earlier this year, Barrow stepped down from his role as Leader of the Opposition following a loss in the general elections and increasing public scrutiny. His resignation came amid significant criticism on social media and other platforms. However, with this announcement, Barrow has made it clear that he remains committed to the UDP and its future.

He closed his message by thanking supporters for their encouragement:

“Thanks to all of you for your prayers and encouragement to continue the fight for a better Belize!”

As the UDP looks ahead to its National Convention, all eyes will be on how the party navigates this next chapter under Barrow’s leadership.
