(WBWTN) - A young recruit from the Belize Police Department is being hailed as a hero after her quick thinking helped save a baby's life earlier this week.
Recruit Police Constable (RPC) Alana Reneau, a member of Squad 98 stationed at Raccoon Street Police Station, was on her way back from defensive tactics training on April 23, 2025, when the incident unfolded. While being transported, she came across a distraught mother whose baby had suddenly stopped breathing.
Without a moment’s hesitation, RPC Reneau sprang into action. Drawing on her training, she immediately began first aid procedures, patting the baby's back and gently rubbing his chest. When she heard the baby gasp for air, she continued assisting by blowing lightly on his face and adjusting his tongue to help clear the airway.
Understanding the urgency of the situation, RPC Reneau ensured that the mother and her baby were quickly transported to the nearby Mahogany Sub-Station. From there, a Special Patrol Unit (SPU) mobile team escorted them to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for further emergency care.
The Belize Police Department publicly praised RPC Reneau’s actions in a heartfelt Facebook post, describing her response as a testament to the critical value of police training and quick decision-making in saving lives.
“RPC Reneau’s rapid response and decisive intervention exemplify bravery and the invaluable impact of police training in our community,” the department wrote.
The story has since gained widespread attention on social media, with many users commending RPC Reneau for her courage and compassion.
