Guyana (WBWTN) - What started as a regular family outing ended in heartbreak after the body of 11-year-old Adrianna Younge was found early Thursday morning in the swimming pool of the Double Day Hotel in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.
Adrianna had been reported missing the day before, around 1 p.m., after she went to the hotel with her grandmother and other relatives. Family members say they searched the area—including the pool—but found no sign of her. Police also searched the hotel later that evening but came up empty-handed.
The shocking discovery of her body has left the country in mourning—and sparked outrage in the community.
Not long after the news broke, angry residents began protesting outside the hotel. Tires were set on fire, roads were blocked, and eventually the hotel itself—and a house reportedly belonging to the hotel owner—were set ablaze. Vehicles parked on the property were also damaged.
Suspicious Details and Conflicting Reports
One of the biggest questions surrounding Adrianna’s death is how her body was missed during the initial searches. Some residents believe she was already dead and that her body was placed in the pool afterward. Family members claim the hotel staff refused to help search or share their surveillance footage.
While police say video from a command center showed Adrianna entering a red and black Toyota Raum, her relatives insist she never left the hotel. A neighbor’s camera reportedly caught the family arriving, but no footage has surfaced showing the child leaving the premises.
Police say they are trying to track down the driver of the vehicle, which was rented out to someone only identified as “Orlando.” So far, he hasn’t been located.
President Steps In
President Irfaan Ali has called for a full investigation and has assigned a special police team to look into what happened. He assured the public that all necessary resources will be used to find out the truth.
Meanwhile, fire crews were on the scene trying to control the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby homes.
This tragic case has left many with heavy hearts and unanswered questions. The community is demanding justice—not just for Adrianna, but for the many others who feel their voices have gone unheard for too long.
