(WBWTN) - The tight-knit community of Gales Point Manatee is reeling after a horrifying and rare incident claimed the life of a local man—not by violence, accident, or illness, but in a brutal attack by a pig.
Anthony Andrewin sr, described by neighbors as a hardworking and kind man, was simply trying to shoo away a stray pig from his yard when the unthinkable happened. The animal, which had escaped its pen, suddenly turned on him, with its sharp tusks and tear into Andrewin’s leg. The wound was severe, and despite desperate efforts to save him, Andrewin died on the way to the hospital.
Following the attack, villagers took matters into their own hands, killing and burning the aggressive pig. But the larger issue remains: How many more tragedies will it take before stricter measures are enforced?
While fatal pig attacks are extremely rare, this incident has sparked urgent discussions about livestock management in rural Belize. Other villages are now re-evaluating their own animal control policies, fearing similar tragedies.
