(WBWTN) - The Belize National Teachers’ Union (BNTU) has concluded its national membership vote on proposed industrial action, following a series of union-wide meetings held across the country today.

In an official communication issued to members this evening, BNTU National President Nadia Caliz confirmed that over 2,500 members participated in the vote. The results reflect strong support for a phased response strategy aimed at addressing union concerns.

The categories of industrial action approved by the membership are as follows:

Phase 1: Demonstration

Phase 2: Two-Day National Shutdown

Phase 3: Strike

In her letter to members, President Caliz expressed appreciation for the high level of participation, describing it as “a powerful display of unity, participation, and commitment to democratic principles.”

She further stated, “Your active involvement and willingness to speak through your vote reflect your dedication to the future direction of our union and the changes you wish to see.”

The BNTU reaffirmed its dedication to protecting the interests of Belizean teachers and supporting the educational development of the nation’s students.

Further updates regarding the implementation of the approved phases of industrial action are expected to be communicated in the coming days.
